We know that, no matter how great our coaches are, the first one might not be the right one. So we want to suggest a few things you can do to help you get something meaningful from the experience, whether you end up going with that coach or not.
We all know from extensive experience that consultation calls can give you a great chance to get a better understanding of what you can get out of coaching and determine whether the coach you’ve chosen feels like a good fit for you. To get started we recommend you download this guide that walks through what coaching is and how to get the most out of it!
At AceUp, we use the information from your intake survey to suggest the best potential coaches for you. We are very proud that over 85% of our complimentary consult calls result in coaching engagements. However, we know that, no matter how great our coaches are, the first one might not be the right one. So we want to suggest a few things you can do to help you get something meaningful from the experience, whether you end up going with that coach or not:
- Before the call, think about which goals, objectives, challenges, or dreams you want coaching to help you address.Review the coach’s profile and identify the parts of their background that resonate most with you.
- Go to a room/place where you won’t be disturbed and try to eliminate as many distractions as possible. If possible, face an open window and avoid looking at computer screens or your phone- you’ll get much more out of the call if you give the conversation your full attention.
- Listen to the coach’s explanation of what’s going to happen and what coaching can provide. Ask any clarification questions to help you better understand the process.
- One of the biggest goals of a coaching session is to help you see your situation in new ways, so be ready to capture any new ideas, powerful insights, or meaningful questions that come up on the call.
- If you have a big insight, feel free to pause the conversation so that you can reflect on it for a moment and see where it leads. Coaches LOVE when clients take the time to follow their own ideas and come up with new actions, ideas, or goals.
- Pay attention to your emotions during the call. If a question makes you feel uncomfortable, think about why: does the question challenge you to rethink the ways you’ve been working or living? Does the idea of taking new action feel risky? Are you anxious about change? All of those are quite normal emotions to experience in a deep coaching conversation and can lead to new ways of looking at your situation.
- If you feel excited and motivated by the experience, tell the coach that you want to work with them and schedule your first session- the sooner you get started, the easier it will be to turn that excitement into new action! If you aren’t sure, thank the coach and schedule your 2nd consultation call. Whatever your choice, we will make sure that you get the coach you deserve.
